Asbestos & Mold Surveys
Here at Hazmat One, we have both AHERA and NIOSH certified inspectors. This means that we can sample Asbestos and Mold for any residential, commercial, or RV areas.
How does the process work?
Our certified inspector will come to your location, and start gathering samples from the affected area. What does that mean?
If you are remodeling the kitchen of your house, we do not need to gather samples from your entire house, and your roof for example. We should only be gathering samples from your kitchen area. If you are renovating your Master Bath and your Kitchen, then we would gather samples from those 2 specific areas.
Asbestos Samples
We would gather Asbestos samples - 2x2" square - from Walls, Cielings, Floors, and anything else that could possibly have been constructed with Asbestos Containing Materials (ACM).Depending on how big the area is that is being renovated, the minimum sample amount would be 3 samples. The larger the square footage is, the more samples that are required. As an example, if you are remodeling your kitchen, then our inspector would:
- Cut a 2x2" hole in the wall, and gather the drywall or plaster sample, including tape/texture and joint compound
- If the ceiling is constructed to match the walls, we would incorporate that as one of the 3 required samples
- If the ceiling is a "popcorn" texture that would be a sampel by itself
- Samples of flooring - if it's wood then no sample is needed as it will not contain ACM. Any other flooring style - tile, vinyl, carpet - must be tested. The glue used for vinyl and carpet could very well contain ACM.
- If your remodel includes the roof, then a single sample would be taken of the roofing material. One thing to note: if the roof has multiple layers, then a sample would be required from each layer.
- Tape Lifts
- Air Testing
Mold Samples
If mold is suspected, but not visually evident, then we will combine the Tape Lift and Air Testing. This is the most comprehensive method to determine whether or not mold exists in the location in question.
Lab Testing
Once the survey sampling in the field is complete, then our inspector returns the samples to our in-house Asbestos Lab. Our lab technician will then test the samples and produce an test results report.
Our inspector will then combine the lab report with the inspection report to create the final Asbestos or Mold Survey Report. This is then typically delivered the same day (depending on the lab testing schedule) electronically through email.
Once that report is received by the homeowner or contractor, they can then determine how they want to proceed forward with the remodel or renovation. If the report shows ACM present in the samples, coordination with a certified abatement contractor will be necessary.
